Murray is a keen diver and recreational fisher - both by spear and by line - and loves spending time in the Fiordland Marine Area. He became very familiar with the place when he was the Biodiversity Manager for the Department of Conservation in Te Anau. This job involved marine biodiversity, biosecurity, island pest eradication projects, and work to protect threatened species throughout Fiordland. Murray has a strong connection with Fiordland and is keen to see it managed well for future generations to enjoy. Murray now farms with his family near the Key in the Te Anau Basin.
