Research for treatment options for invasive marine pests

Are you interested in the underwater sounds of Fiordland's marine environment? Do you operate a vessel in the FMA, and would you be interested in supporting acoustic research?

Researchers from the universities of Otago and Waikato are seeking help with accessing remote locations in the FMA for the deployment and servicing of acoustic underwater recorders.

Guardians provide recommendations on recreational fishing regulations to the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries

In November, the Guardians travelled to Wellington to deliver their recommendations to Hon. David Parker, the Minister of Oceans and Fisheries, regarding changes to the amateur fishing regulations in the Fiordland (Te Moana o Atawhenua) Marine Area.

New Fiordland Marine Guardians appointed

Environment Minister David Parker recently appointed two new Fiordland Marine Guardians and re-appointed three existing Guardians.

Fiordland is an incredibly special part of Aotearoa with unique qualities, landscapes and taonga species that need protection.

Trainee divers needed to battle Undaria in Fiordland

36 people based in Te Anau will be employed as divers over the next 2 years to eliminate Undaria from Taiari/Chalky Inlet and contain it within Te Puaitaha/Breaksea Sound. Full diver training will be provided to successful applicants to complete a Worksafe New Zealand Scientific Diver Certificate of Competence.
